Dear Editor,
As always, James Mildred’s column is so relevant and topical. In the June 2022 en he effectively summarised what the root problems are with our nation and how Christians must seek for engagement in the ‘public square’. Far too many of us ‘hide our light under a bushel’ (to my shame I am one of them) and we need to earnestly pray that we might be delivered from this snare (see Proverbs 29:25a).
How true the Scriptures are when it comes to a nation like ours that has departed from the ways of God. We read ‘righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people’ and at the end of the book of Judges we read that ‘everyone did what was right in his own eyes’. If ever we need the Lord to work, surely it is in our own day! May we be earnest in prayer and perhaps use the sentiments of that penitential and urgent prayer in Isaiah 63:15 to 64:12 – ‘Oh that you would rend the heavens! That you would come down…’
