Dear Editor,
Re Diane Langberg’s magnificent essay in the March issue of en. Are we being called to a leaner and simpler form of congregational life, with fewer hierarchies or bureaucracies, plus far greater accountability and transparency? Idolatrous veneration at the ‘evangelical leadership altar’ can include human sacrifice: suicide. Roman Catholicism was shaken to the core by widespread and concealed child sexual abuse, but is adult abuse (especially ministry trainees) the great unspoken evangelical equivalent? It’s a nettle with a sting, but one the evangelical church needs to grasp: firmly and quickly.
Yours sincerely,
