Dear Editor,
I’m sure that in the September issue of en John Benton is correct in his assessment that churches can become too big. However, may I suggest that before such churches think about planting a new congregation (as John suggests), they take a look at the needs of the many smaller churches in their ‘catchment area’ and see if they can encourage members of their existing congregation to support these small fellowships – especially those who ‘commute’ from the villages to the big town churches. The addition of a couple of families into a small rural church can make a huge difference to their life and witness. Knowing John’s concern for smaller churches, I’m sure he would endorse this.
Yours sincerely,
