Dear Editor,

I agree with Rod Ruston’s letter in the August 2021 en commenting on Chris Sinkinson’s feature in the July issue.

If disgraced authors have previously written books or given talks that contain good Biblical teaching then we can still profit from them. If we were to expunge all the literature from history that has been produced by authors whose lives were far from exemplary, then we would be left with a very small collection of ‘approved’ books. I believe Jesus’ words in Matthew 23:2-3 give us some guidance on this matter: ‘The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.’
