Dear Editor,
Is Marriage Allowance something that en should bring to the attention of couples who are prioritising, or have prioritised, child-rearing and other Christian service over the economic gain achieved by both parents working beyond the point of tax liability? It may also be helpful to a pastor’s wife who supports him in the work either financially or practically, and to any home educator and in other circumstances.
It seems to work, according to the Gov UK website, as follows: Marriage Allowance lets you transfer £1,250 of your Personal Allowance to your husband or wife – if they earn more than you. It started on 6 April 2015. The lower earner must not be paying tax and makes the claim. This reduces their tax by up to £250 in the tax year (6 April to 5 April the next year).
