Dear en,
I read your article on theological training and how well it prepares people for ministry with interest (May en). I knew Mike Ovey, as I was Student President at Oak Hill when he was there, before his appointment to the Principal job. I liked and respected him immensely and I fully agree with his assertion and yours, that traditional theological training may not be fully equipping people to stay the course, particularly in the area of people management.
I completed a business degree and was in PR consultancy for six years before my theological degree. I now lead an evangelical Anglican church with a 15-strong staff team, and would say that my business degree is every bit as useful – particularly the psychological and legal modules – as my theological degree.
