Dear Editor,
Wallace Benn’s review of Dr Hamer’s book God’s Divorce (September en) was helpful, but from the outset it is clear that he has not been able to realign his thinking to the biblical way that the book demands.
Hamer argues that we have mistakenly conflated Genesis 2.23 and 24; it is one of the many key new insights in his work. Adam never left a mother or father, and was ‘one flesh’ with Eve before they were united in marriage. The word ‘therefore’ that links the two verses in Hebrew can be translated ‘after that’, thus Benn makes too much of the poor English translation.
