Dear Sir,
I read with much sympathy the article in the December issue of en concerning the problems faced by a pastor’s wife. I write with understanding as my wife spent 27 years married to a pastor – namely me.
I feel that, with a little effort, this was a situation that need not have occurred. Surely, it would have been possible, and certainly advisable, for the wife of the intended pastor to have had her own opportunity to share her thoughts about her role as ‘pastor’s wife’ and given her the space to make clear what she felt she could and could not offer. This would have avoided those misunderstandings and inappropriate expectations of what was taken for granted – ‘This is what the pastor’s wife does!’
