Dear Sir,
Your article on André Trocmé is particularly timely. As I walked into Waterstones this week, their book of the month caught my eye... Village of Secrets: Defying the Nazis in Vichy France.* It tells the story of the heroism of the small Christian communities in and around the Cevennes who gave sanctuary to the fleeing Jews and the terrible price they paid when eventually caught. I see from the index that there are numerous references to André Trocmé in the book.
This takes me back to a period of study at 'Les Cedres' in 1994, at the French Baptist Language School at Massey, near Paris. While I was studying at Les Cedres, there was great excitement among the local Christians that this story was to be told in a major production on French TV. No one could remember a time when French Protestants had been given public air time and they were thrilled that this story of Christian love and sacrifice would be shown to the nation. I watched enrapt.
