Dear Editor,
I believe there is an increasing amount of humour from the pulpit these days, and I wonder if the devil is using this to detract people’s minds from the seriousness of the gospel. For example, many (all) people will find it difficult to be laughing one moment and then taking the conversation seriously the next.
Or to put things another way, I cannot imagine a doctor who has to tell a patient that he has cancer starting the conversation with a joke or two. I know many people would argue that it can be helpful to have an ‘ice breaker’ at the beginning of a talk, but I don’t see either the Lord Jesus Christ or his apostles using this method.
