In early March the Tennessee House of Representatives passed a measure that pushes back against the Supreme Court’s gay marriage decision.

It was reported that the measure says that the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, which redefines marriage, wrongly usurped power from the states in making a federal law which some states were not in favour of.

The motion said: ‘Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the one hundred ninth General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, the Senate concurring, that this body expresses its disagreement with the constitutional analysis in Obergefell v. Hodges and the judicial imposition of a marriage license law that is contrary to the express will of this body and the vote of the people of Tennessee.’
