Sunday 6 September, was a day of celebration in the town of Morogoro, Tanzania, as the New Testament in six different languages were released.
This wonderful occasion marked the completion of several years of hard work by the translation teams of The Word for The World (TWFTW) and Pioneer Bible Translators. People from many different countries, and regions within Tanzania gathered together to give thanks to God, to pray for the work of the gospel, and to dedicate these New Testaments to God and his greater glory.
The following Sunday, 13 September, we visited the rural town of Chita, which is the homeland of the Ndamba people. We had the joy of celebrating with them, as they prepared to receive the New Testament in their own language for the very first time. The day was filled with much singing, dancing and speeches. Finally the moment that we had all been waiting for came, the boxes of New Testaments were opened and we began to hand them out to the people. The joy and excitement was tangible. Within moments of handing out these New Testaments, people were huddled in groups around them reading together. As they began to read, broad smiles beamed across their faces, for now God’s Word was in their own mother tongue.
