1,400 gospel tracts given out at Notting Hill Carnival

The evangelistic 'mini chariot'

This year’s Notting Hill Carnival marked the 30th year of Christian outreach at the two-day event, at which two people were tragically killed.

Seven open-air preachers, including city preacher Roland Parsons, proclaimed the gospel across ten hours; gave out 1,400 gospel tracts and free Bibles; and displayed Bible texts to approximately 200,000 people at the carnival on the last weekend in August.

This year, the team brought a new ‘mini-chariot’ displaying Scripture texts including the Ten Commandments.

This year also marked a first for the team. Roland said: ‘From 2.15pm to 4.45pm on Sunday, no floats came near us, so I was clearly heard preaching to the huge crowds a passionate proclamation of the gospel. My voice held up to the continuous two and a half hours preaching.’

He added: ‘Many came from the crowd to request a free King James Bible or New Testament. It was clear from their faces and demeanour that the huge crowds, sat on steps and standing at junctions, were convicted by the message.’
