Baptism boost for village

The first baptisms in more than 15 years at a small village evangelical church took place in late June. A mother and daughter were baptized at Otford Evangelical Free Church near Sevenoaks after attending the church for just over a year.

Kevin Bracken, who has pastored the church since the start of 2018, said the two women had a sense that Jesus was the Son of God and the Bible was true, ‘but since sitting regularly under the ministry of the word of God and attending a Christianity Explored course run by the church, their faith has matured leading to a desire to be baptized’.

Kevin said when he became pastor the church was ‘at a very low ebb’ and had been without a pastor for more than 10 years. The church is still about the same size as it was 15 years ago, with a membership of 23. But he added: ‘We have been slowly rebuilding, interrupted by covid-19, but have been blessed with some modest growth recently.
