Reformers with Inky Fingers was the theme of the latest Annual Church History Lecture at the Edinburgh Theological Seminary (ETS).
The annual lecture at ETS is based on original research by an eminent scholar of Christianity.
This year the address was given by Dr Zachary Purvis, lecturer in Church History at ETS. He showed how fresh attention to ‘inky realities’—careful reading of texts, deciphering of marginalia, tracing of arcane references, building of libraries – holds great promise for better understanding, not only of the Reformers, but also the theology, piety, and practice of the Protestant tradition today.
