Downs win

In a resounding victory for campaigner Heidi Crowther (pictured), the Down’s Syndrome Bill has passed through the House of Lords and will become law.

Once in force, England will be first country in the world to legally recognise people with Down’s. The legislation means that the government will have to publish guidance on the specific needs of people with the syndrome.

It will now be given Royal Assent. Heidi said: ‘Now it’s up to the Queen to sign it – then we have a pint of presscco [sic]’
