Shortly after en was going to press, Welsh evangelicals were due to have a crucial meeting with church leaders which could determine their future.

All members of the Evangelical Fellowship of the Church in Wales (EFCW) were being invited to meet the bishops of the Church in Wales on Zoom following a recent decision to bless same-sex relationships in church.

The move follows a meeting between the EFCW executive and the bishops, at which evangelicals were told that the use of the word ‘experimental’ in relation to its same-sex blessing legislation in fact meant ‘temporary until made permanent in this context’. They were also informed that the bishops were ‘of one mind’ on introducing provision for same-sex marriage – despite the recent appointment of evangelical John Lomas as the next Bishop of Wrexham. The final step to him taking up that role is expected early in 2022.
