The South West Men’s Convention has been held at St Michael’s Centre, Stoke Gifford in Bristol.
The title of the Convention this year was ‘Feeling WELL: The place of emotions in Christian discipleship’, and around 300 men from as far afield as Plymouth and Swindon were treated to rich expositions of Scripture from Julian Hardyman (Eden Baptist Church, Cambridge, see photo) and Santhosh Thomas (Dundonald Church, London). Julian spoke twice from the Song of Songs, carefully but passionately unfolding the way in which Christian men can appropriate the Song as revealing the affective depths of our relationship with Christ. Complementing these, Santhosh painted a very practical picture of the apostle Paul’s example of cultivating a healthy emotional life in Christ, from Philippians 4.
The afternoon was given to seminars on practical topics including ‘Emotions in our Prayer Life’, ‘Emotionally Open Male Friendship’, and ‘Dealing with Depression’.
