The Northern Ireland Department for Communities launched a gambling consultation* which closes on 21 February.
The survey covers ways in which gambling is managed, from bingo halls to betting shops, and includes the age limits that gambling laws cover at present. The laws around remote gambling and advertising also feature in the consultation, and there is space at the end to make any further comments about gambling.
A spokesman for CARE said: ‘It is well known that problem gambling can have a devastating impact on individuals and families. It can lead to financial problems, family breakdown and in extreme cases it can even lead individuals to take their own lives. The current law is no longer fit for purpose and real people right across our society are suffering as a consequence.’
