In a sad but unsurprising move, Southwark Cathedral hosted an evening in August with a former pastor known for her teachings rejecting purity and abstinence.
Nadia Bolz-Weber promoted her book Shameless, which offers a ‘full-blown overhaul of harmful and antiquated ideas about sex, gender, and our bodies’.
Bolz-Weber shared experiences from her life alongside theology to explore what she said is the harm religious teachings have caused. She re-examined patriarchy, sex and power with candour and hope because she believes the gospel can ‘heal not only the ones who have been hurt, but also those who have done the hurting’.
