In April, a group of evangelical churches organised the annual series of midweek evenings of Bible ministry which form Derby Bible Week.
Over the past 30 years the meetings have grown, and this year around 400 met together in two locations; a smaller morning session with the same message repeated at the main meeting in the evening.
Tim Chester (pastor of Grace Church, Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire) spoke through Colossians with the intriguing title of ‘How to be Human’. Chester’s application was truly compelling as he showed the similarities of contemporary culture with the days in which the letter was written. He explained that Colossians is effectively the Christian’s handbook for being human, and that people are made truly human as God intended as they are transformed through the creative life-giving Word of God; through knowing Christ; through the cross and resurrection, and in community as local churches.
