In March, while Muslim parents continued to protest in Birmingham about liberal sex education teaching in primary schools, a Christian mother in Croydon launched a legal challenge against a school and council for the way she was treated after making a complaint about a ‘Pride’ event at her child’s school.
Heavers Farm Primary School organised a parade which included a clear celebration of LGBT lifestyles in June 2018. Mrs Izzy Montague, one of a group of parents who complained at their children being forced to take part in the event, reported that she and others were treated dismissively and then victimised following their complaints to the school about the event.
Some parents were barred from school premises after complaining. A member of staff wore a T-shirt to one meeting with the slogan: ‘Why be racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic, when you can just be quiet?’
