Loving technology & Jesus

Kingdom Coders at work

Over the weekend of Friday 19 – Saturday 20 October, 120 participants from across the UK and beyond gathered at St John’s, Hoxton, to build technology for God’s glory, at Kingdom Code: BUILD.

This year’s event, now in its fourth year, partnered with Bible Society and Stewardship. 23 projects were explored, tackling the challenges of how to use technology to increase engagement with the Bible and to encourage people in their generosity.

Two of the award-winning projects were !Sensational, a news app which presents Bible stories as sensational news stories, then reveals the Bible passage behind the story; and PER-C, a tool to track the week’s spending, then to suggest donating a percentage to a charity of the user’s choice. Other projects included Relevate (a creative fusion of user-based content with the Bible – described as ‘Pinterest + the Bible’), Cheerful Giving (recommending related charities to ones that people have just donated to), Acts 2.Do (connecting missionaries and supporters beyond the merely financial), Bible Training Memorisation (an ‘app to help memorise the Bible’), and the Beginners’ Team (who were taught from scratch how to code websites).
