A survey released in mid-July showed that perceptions of Christianity could be shifting, particularly among post-millennials.
The poll asked over 4,000 people about their feelings towards religion. 10% agreed with the statement that ‘religion is a negative influence on society’. Less than half of those surveyed (44%) agreed that they have had a positive experience of Christians /Christianity, and more than half (51%) disagreed that Christians are a negative force in society.
The 18 – 24-year-old ‘Generation Z’ age group – sometimes known as post-millen-nials’ – are the most likely to report that being an atheist or non-religious is ‘more normal’. But they are also the most likely to agree that they have had a positive experience of Christians and Christianity – a higher proportion than any other age group (51% vs 38-49%).
