Faith with dementia

Pilgrim’s Friend is often asked if it is possible for someone with dementia to come to faith, and the answer is yes, it is.

Personal accounts by family members show this to be true. A daughter told how her mother, a non-Christian, whose inhibitions were slipping and who could be socially embarrassing, decided that she was going to come to church one Sunday. She was remarkably quiet, but said she would like to go again the following week. On that Sunday she went to the front and said how she’d heard the message the previous week and had given her heart to Jesus. What a reminder that it is the Holy Spirit who ‘convicts of righteousness’, and speaks to the heart.
