SW wives face down fear

Ruth Shaw

On 24 September, the 2016 Day Conference for Pastors’ Wives was held at the newly refurbished premises of Whiteshill Evangelical Church, Bristol, with pastors’ wives from as far afield as Buckinghamshire and South Wales in attendance.

Ruth Shaw, from Emmanuel Evangelical Church Chippenham, spoke helpfully from Nehemiah on the subject of fear and anxiety; focussing upon Nehemiah 5 and 9. For pastors’ wives there can often be times when fear overwhelms: the size of the task; the fear of people, or the attack of the enemy. Ruth gave practical and pastoral advice about how to respond when faced with a fearful situation.

Daunting task, uncertain future

Considering Nehemiah’s godly response in the midst of a daunting task or an uncertain future, encouragement was given to remember God’s past faithfulness and his gracious promises to his children. When fear of man tempts one to run, avoid or hide, one should hold onto hope by keeping our eyes on Jesus.
