NMC: live for Christ

David Robertson addresses the troops

Encouraging Men to Live for Christ was the strapline of the Northern Men’s Convention (NMC) and at its 13th event on 14 May, 450 men were encouraged to be confident in God’s Word, in God’s Son and in God’s Church.

David Robertson from SOLAS, the Centre for Public Christianity in Dundee, spoke powerfully on each of these key areas and fielded an hour of questions on a huge range of topics. Feedback indicated that men were indeed more confident as they left to take what they had learnt back to their home churches and to make a stand in the public square.

In its second year NMC gave birth to the first Northern Women’s Convention and that in turn birthed two Midlands Women’s Conventions and this year will see the start of a Midlands Men’s Convention. It was expected that this latter would result in smaller numbers in the north so the Northern Men’s moved to a new venue at St John’s Knutsford which was filled almost to capacity. It seems these conventions are meeting a real need as men (and women at their events) gather, hear God’s Word, raise their voices in praise of our great God (the singing was particularly good this year in a more compact venue) and encourage one another.
