LtoR: Abi and Tom Copperwheat with Matthew and Chrisi Benton

The ministry of Alan Harvey and his wife Pat has been very blessed at Limes Avenue Baptist Church in Aylesbury in recent years.

As Alan moves towards retirement the church has appointed two men to come alongside in the leadership. Saturday 12 September saw the induction service of Matthew Benton as assistant pastor and the recognition of Tom Copperwheat as pastoral assistant. It was both happy and serious with both men and their wives answering questions about their calling to the church and their commitment to Christ and the work of the ministry before local believers and well-wishers who had travelled from Emmanuel Leamington Spa and Chertsey Street Guildford.

Bill James of Emmanuel, where Matt has been pastor in training for two years, preached from Joshua 1.1–9, encouraging the two appointees to be both men of God and men of courage in obedience to all that God has said. The promise of the Lord that ‘I will be with you’ means that preaching can be and should be so much more than a college lecture, but that the listening congregation may rightly feel that they are hearing God speak. The church are excited about the future and Alan, Matt and Tom are looking forward to working together for the glory of God, the good of the church and the local community.
