Abortion straw-man?

In an extraordinary attack at a court hearing on 6 February, a judge has suggested that pro-life activist Aisling Hubert is a ‘straw-man’ in the prosecution of a doctor filmed offering ‘gender-abortion’.

His Honour Judge Martin Steiger QC made the comments during a hearing at Manchester Crown Court where a request was being made to obtain the full video evidence of two doctors in 2012 offering to abort a child simply due to the children being girls. The request was denied.

Aisling Hubert brought the case after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) refused to do so citing it not being ‘in the public interest’ to prosecute the doctors even though it found enough evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction. Dr Sivaraman's lawyers are urging the CPS first to take-over the case and then to drop it.
