Three former rectors – spanning nearly 40 years of ministry – were pictured with the new rector of St Anne’s Limehouse, the Revd Richard Bray, at his licensing service on September 3.
St Anne’s was reinvigorated in the 1970s and 80s under the evangelical leadership of Chris Idle (an occasional contributor to en). The work was continued under John Pearce in the 1990s, when the many lay assistants included en’s own Richard Simpkin (who played the organ at the recent licensing service). In 2003, St Peter’s Barge was skippered across the Channel to become a long-term base in the parish for ministry to Canary Wharf by the then rector Gordon Warren.
Richard said: ‘St Anne’s is remarkable for its mix of different ages, classes and colours worshipping together. It’s our prayer that we grow in number and depth of maturity, demonstrating the glorious unity of Jesus Christ amidst our diversity’.
