The West Cornwall Convention took place on September 9-12 at Fore Street Chapel in Camborne.
Once again the building was near its capacity of 100, this time to hear John Benton, obviously well known to readers as EN’s editor, speaking on the subject of ‘Atheism: its roots and its fruits’.
Aspects of atheism
People from a spread of a dozen or more of the local evangelical churches came to hear the series of talks titled ‘The Feeling Atheist’ (Psalm 14.1), ‘The Thinking Atheist’ (Psalm 14.2-3), ‘The Indulgent Atheist’ (Ephesians 4.18-19) and ‘Where Atheism takes us’ (Romans 1.18-32). While it was heartening to hear the bold claims of the currently popular aggressive atheism ably refuted, it was also a sobering challenge to recognise just where the tacit atheism of modern British society is taking us.
