Thornton Heath renewed

Gordon Bull (L), with Harry and Hazel Waite (sitting). Harry was a former minister for 34 years

The grand opening of Thornton Heath Evangelical Church on May 18 saw the church celebrate the completion of the rebuilding of the church and its halls.

Gordon Bull — one year on from his appointment as pastor — cut the tape and former Pastor Harry Waite (in his 90th year) prayed for the past, present and future blessing on the church.

The building is strategically placed on the A23 London Road and clearly visible to passers-by. The project has seen increased local interest — including new families joining the church services. The Rev. Irving Steggles, from South Africa and Chairman of London Theological Seminary, preached at the weekend services. His theme was taken from 1 Peter 1 on the ‘real building project’. While this new building was cutting edge, God’s church is a spiritual and a living building — so that the true church of God is alive and always growing.
