LONGING

As we live in a time between the times – rejoicing in the victory of the cross, awaiting the resurrection to come – we need songs that celebrate what we already have and express our longing for heaven. Olly Knight’s Longing is a wonderful example of the latter.
The real strength of this song is its simple beauty; you can’t help but feel the aches for heaven woven between lyric and melody. Olly has (along with co-writers Tim Mann, Phil Moore and Josh Rayner) begun with the great and certain hopes of Scripture – seeing the glory of Christ, an end to grief and sadness, being made perfect in Christ. And they have married them skilfully with melody that I think captures the tension in which we now find ourselves: the holy awe of what we see dimly now and is still yet to come.
