These two books are 13th and 14th in a series called Little Lights. They are written to be read to children (aged 4–5) or for children to read themselves (aged 6–7). They are all based on heroes or heroines of the faith.
The books give an overview of the lives of Lottie Moon, a missionary to China from America in the late 1800s and early 1900s; and of John Knox, a Scot who stood firm for the Reformed faith in the 16th century. Both books draw on particular incidents in their lives which were striking and significant. In both cases the acts of these people had an important impact on the church, which last until today. The books finish with a page or two showing this impact upon the church’s heritage. The stories are interesting and gripping, written in a plain, easy-to-understand style. There are applications throughout on subjects and issues such as sacrifice, giving, courage, imprisonment, persecution, Roman Catholicism, the State, love and salvation. The conversion of both Lottie and John are explained, with the gospel clearly presented.
