PRAYING THE PSALMS
By Stephen Dray
Carn Brea Media. 227 pages. £7.99

This book is a series of theologically lightweight, orthodox devotions relating to the Psalms.
In his introduction, Dray outlines the layout and aims: The Psalm (or section) will be read. A very brief comment follows which is not a commentary and is ‘designed to help identify the specific devotional core’. Then there is a brief prayer seeking ‘to take the substance of the Psalm and turn it into words to assist readers to pray the Psalm’. Each section ends with ‘further suggestions for prayer stimulated by the Psalm. Thus, while designed primarily for personal (possibly daily) use, it might also assist corporate devotions’. In addition, there are a few panels of explanation on topics such as Messianic hope in the Old Testament and David’s enemies. This book fulfils its stated aims. In my view, its usefulness is limited by its lack of depth, but it will be helpful to some.
