THE GOD WHO MAKES HIMSELF KNOWN
The missionary heart of the book of Exodus
By W. Ross Blackburn. Apollos. 238 pages. £12.99
ISBN 978 1 844 745 739

Dr. Blackburn’s thesis is that, in all his dealings with Israel, Yahweh was additionally aiming at the wider target of making himself know to the nations.

The Book of Exodus, he sets out to show, displays this truth in action. In this aim he succeeds, but it did not prove to be, to me, the major benefit of his book. Working his way right through — with sections on the Name, the Wilderness, the Law, the Tabernacle instructions, the Calf and the Tabernacle construction — he touches the whole content of Exodus with brilliant illumination — to such an extent that I do not hesitate to say that this book is indispensable for any serious student or (specially) preacher — a commentary on Exodus from the perspective of biblical theology.
