Mackay offers a persuasive observation of the structure of Hosea’s book, and he follows each section of detailed commentary with ‘reflections’, uniformly helpful, extending the central thought of that section into other areas of biblical and practical theology. His footnotes and his frequent individual word-studies are in themselves a separate goldmine. I know of no clearer or fairer treatment of the vexed question of Hosea’s marriage.
