HEAVEN
By Paula Gooder
SPCK. 208 pages. £9.99
ISBN 978 0 281 062 348

The theme of this book is profound. It concerns the presence of God himself, not just after death, but also in this life.

Paula Gooder explains that heaven is the place alongside earth where God dwells. She conveys powerfully that he is not far from any one of us and that his presence at times breaks through. There is interaction between heaven and earth. Prophets, angels and supremely the Lord Jesus Christ have ensured (and still ensure) that those on earth have had (and still have) many opportunities to hear directly from God. Sometimes, the barrier between heaven and earth is ‘thin’. At other times and places, this is less the case. This seems biblical; it accords with my own experience.
