GOD’S CARE FOR THE WIDOW
Encouragement and wisdom for those who grieve
By Austin Walker. Day One. 123 pages. £5.00
ISBN 978-1846251993

This book undoubtedly affirms God as the one with a special place in his heart for the widow and clearly underlines the responsibility of the church to honour, provide and care for those whose lives have been significantly changed by loss.

Devoid of unhelpful clichés and slick, easy answers, it addresses some of the complexities of grief with an honesty and a style that is easy to read, sometimes repetitive, yet profound. It flows from a pastor’s heart and is interspersed with personal encouragement and affirmation, avoiding the temptation to sound patronising or dismissive. But, as it tenderly explores some of the intense emotions and reactions that can be experienced by the widow, it remains full of challenge, dealing with issues like guilt, self-pity and bitterness.
