Haydn Davies, a talented Welsh footballer, was picked for the U21 squad at 16 and played for Betts Boys’ Club, Llangeinor, Lewistown, and Bridgend.
With scouts from Spurs, Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Cardiff City and Arsenal showing interest in him, a promising career was lost in a drink-related car crash on ‘A night out with the boys’. One friend was thrown from the car and went for help, two died instantly; Haydn’s spinal cord was nearly severed. Difficulty with walking means Haydn is dependant upon his wheelchair and has serious health issues even today.
