THE DA VINCI CODE
From Dan Brown’s fiction to Mary Magdalene’s faith
By Garry Williams. Christian Focus. 62 pages.
ISBN 1 84550 121 7
A helpful, approachable little book aimed at non-Christians, answering seven of the key claims raised by Dan Brown’s blockbuster. Williams turns the tables on his claims about Mary Magdalene, and shows that she was, in fact, a major player within a much more intriguing story — seeing Jesus’s death on the cross, and being the very first human being to witness his resurrection.
Williams demonstrates how reliable the Bible is, but I feel a non-Christian would have to be very determined to wade through the historical texts he compares it with. I was confused by quotes from various Gnostic writings, and I think the Bible should have been differentiated by bold type.
