THE NIV/MESSAGE PARALLEL BIBLE
Zondervan/Hodder & Stoughton
2035 pages. £29.99
ISBN 0 340 86386 2

I actually saw two of my older children fighting over who was going to have this Bible. 'My Bible is old and falling apart!' 'Yes, but I need it for my youth work!'

Here we have a split-page Bible. On the left hand side there is the text of the New International Version. This is, of course, a careful translation from the original languages. And thankfully, it is the good old NIV first published in 1979, not one of the trendier and dodgier updates. In the right hand column you have The Message, Eugene Peterson's Bible paraphrase which has become very popular and proved helpful to many people in recent years.
