DOES MARRIAGE MATTER?
Civitas (020 7401 5470)
51 pages. £2.50
ISBN 1 903 386 31 4

Civitas is an independent social policy think tank, founded in 2000. It has no political or religious affiliations.

This booklet attempts to summarise the large body of scientific research which shows the overwhelming benefits of marriage to our families and society. It produces evidence for such statements as 'Marriage is associated with better health and lower rates of injury, illness and disability for both men and women'. Being fairly statistical the text is not all that easy to read. You have to concentrate, but it is well worth it.
