AUTHENTIC CHRISTIANITY:
Sermons on the Acts of the Apostles
Volume 3: Acts 5 and 6
By D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Banner of Truth. 343 pages. £15.99
ISBN 0 85151 832 X

Any publication of Martyn Lloyd-Jones's preaching is a cause for rejoicing in many quarters. Hopefully, though, this new edition will extend to the wider - and perhaps, younger - audience which it deserves. It would do them much good.

These 21 sermons on chapters 5 and 6 of the book of Acts (5.17-6.7) were preached during 1966. The wine has certainly kept its rich flavour, and they are full of challenge and instruction for us today. Verse by verse, in unhurried detail, the Doctor shows us the essence of real Christianity, in doctrine and lifestyle. The strength of the preacher is that he takes the unchanging truth of his text and holds it up to the modern world, analysing the problems, fears and unbelief around him. His language is simple, he develops his ideas carefully and logically (with frequent use of contemporary illustrations). He constantly appeals to the reason of his hearers, showing how the triumphant gospel is the salvation of a lost world. The result is memorable, and inspiring. Preachers young and old have much to learn here!
