In chapter nine the author states her purposes for writing this easy-to-read book: to discourage others from going down the path of divorce and to tell those who have that it is possible to be 'released from the anguish and trauma'.
She has been open about the break-up of her marriage and the emotional and spiritual pain that she and her family suffered. The issues of forgiveness, God's loving providence, trusting Him and His Word during the tough times, what is love, support of friends, and loneliness are all very adequately discussed. This couple had the all-too-common problem of not seeking help when their marriage was in trouble. Their response was denial - it'll all go away if we pretend everything is OK; marriage is a private thing, so we won't bother anyone with this; we're Christians and we'll never divorce; I won't upset my spouse by confronting him/her with my hurts or their sin - being a peacemaker or a peacekeeper.
