FIERCE THE CONFLICT
By Norman Cliff
Joshua Press, Ontario. 208 pages
ISBN 1 894400 12 7

Norman Cliff is a scion of the Broomhall family. Like others in his family over the years he has kept alive the stories of Christians in China. Here he brings us mini-biographies of eight outstanding Christian leaders in the 20th century. Some names are well-known, like that of Watchman Nee, David Wang and Wang Mingdao. Others barely known, though we are left in no doubt that they rank with those of whom the world is not worthy. They suffered for the sake of Christ through persecution, 'accusation meetings', imprisonment and forced labour. And they remained faithful.

Christians in the West tend to know little about the suffering church, and, worse, don't seem to care whether they know anything about it or not. We need to keep working and praying for our churches to grasp a global gospel, which is the biblical gospel. Books like this help.
