This is an account of a year spent teaching English in China, written by an Australian woman who had previously toured China as a dancer. It aims to show everyday grassroots life in China, from an ex-pat point of view, in the hope of stimulating Christians' interest in China.

Chapters deal with different subjects including food, accommodation, teaching, restrictions, cultural differences, and attitudes towards foreigners. The best cover topics in an anecdotal way, based on the author's experiences. Other, more 'documentary' style chapters, such as that on witness, provide only a basic introduction. This light read has some practical value but secular books like Wild Swans would stimulate deeper understanding.
