Narinder Mehat's autobiography gives non-Asians helpful insights into the problems facing Sikh Christians rejected by their families and friends. Her intense and honest account describes her upbringing, arranged marriage to Sewa and how they both became Christians. Faithful friends nurtured them.
Eventually the way opened for commitment to full-time work among Sikhs and other Asians in Wolverhampton. Finally, she relates her struggles with disability after removal of a brain tumour. Notwithstanding some unusual spiritual experiences, submission to biblical authority is evident, and there is realism - no glossing over of mistakes. This useful book focuses on some of the challenges of cross-cultural evangelism, the need for diligent follow-up of new converts, and the problems of integrating mixed-raced congregations. A thought-provoking read, presented in conversational style, with a helpful appendix on Sikhism.
