Survival expert Bear Grylls helped baptise comedian and actor Russell Brand in the River Thames, near where Brand lives in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.

Brand revealed Grylls’ presence at the ceremony alongside another of his friends, in a picture posted on social media, with the caption: ‘Me, Bear Grylls, The River Thames and of course, The Holy Spirit.’

Grylls and the other friend ‘flanked him’ during the ceremony which saw the 48-year-old attempt to ‘leave the past behind him,’ after a Channel 4 documentary published various allegations of sexual assault against him.
