Timothy Alford went home to glory on 6 December 2018.

I first met Timothy when I was a young pastor in the early 1990s and he was the General Secretary of Africa Inland Mission (AIM). Little was I to know then how much of an influence he would have upon me and the work I am now doing at Pastor Training International (PTI).

Christians were frequently ordered to do this by the previous regime, before 2011, in Myanmar (Burma). How did they respond? Churches would pray all through the night and the next, and then petition the authorities for a reprieve – which the Lord sometimes wonderfully granted.

The headline gives the gist of a united message the leaders of the churches in South Sudan sent out this Christmas to their congregations and to the nation’s politicians in response to the conflict that has recently arisen in this the world’s youngest and pre-dominately Christian country.

On the July 9, 2011 The Republic of South Sudan came into existence. Until then the citizens of that country had either lived abroad or as a part of the Islamic State of Sudan.

That is how a new course from America, called ‘The Person of Jesus’, introduces itself. It certainly promises to be something of benefit to the church here in Britain.

The course seems to hit two nails on the head at the same time.
